Delicate colors and shades are produced by many procedures.
Each cut of the block and every movement of the "baren" expresses the spirit of the printer.
Many colors are printed over and over again until the final printed work is created.
The sketch has to be done with as much detail as necessary.
The original design - Completes the composition in color.
Tracing - The design is traced and, as here, retraced in reverse onto the block.
Gomazuri - It is used to give a sense of depth to the print.
The second stage is to print the yellow and pale yellow.
The third stage is to print the brown of the "shoji".
● Tracing - Using carbon paper the original design is traced in reverse onto the woodblock and the different colored areas are indicated.
● Cutting - The block is cut using special cutters and shisels.
